The Upper Peninsula is one of the more predominant places for biking in the Midwest. Here are a list of maps of the bike trails in the local area.
Student Organizations/Local Biking Groups
Copper Country Cycling Club
The C4 racing team is a student biking organization where the racing team resides. You do not have to race in order to be a member of their organization, as they do many other things as well. C4 maintains the Michigan Tech trail system, one of the most predominant riding spots in the Western Upper Peninsula. C4 also works closely with other cycling activities that take place off campus, and offers annual activities such as a Fall Color Tour.
Red Jacket Cycling
The Red Jacket Cycling Club, which is a team that was put together by a number of enthusiastic cyclers that wanted to add another component to biking in the Keweenaw. Click Here for more information.
The Keweenaw Trekkersis a local organization that has since been partnered with the Copper Country Cycling Club. They are still quite active and have a diverse group of bikers ranging from the "Biking is Life. Life is Biking." variety to the recreational biker. Riders split up into two to three groups, usually by ability, but sometimes by what kind of challenge they're looking for on any given Monday night. Members of the group take turns hosting the ride and the potluck. The host(s) are responsible for leading the rides or recruiting people to lead the rides. They also provide the main dish for the potluck that follows the ride.
Downwind Sports is a store that carries primarily Cannondale and Giant Bikes. They also carry a number of biking accessories and parts. Downwind Sports in located in Downtown Houghton, just a few minutes away from campus. Click Here to visit their store for more information.
Cross Country Sports
Cross Country Sports, a predominantly biking store, has everything you need for your bike. They carry a vast variety of bikes, and hold many good relations with cyclers in the area. They carry Trek and Gary Fisher bikes of all kinds. Located in two locations, Houghton and Calumet.
The Bike Shop
New to the area, is "The Bike Shop" located in Downtown Houghton by the waterfront. They carry alterntives to Cross Country and Downwind Sports, once again, showing that Houghton is a predominant place for good road and mountain biking.
